The Treasure
A theatre show with actors and puppets based on the adaptation of Manuel António Pina's story of the same name, which tells the story that transformed the “Country of Sad People” into the “Country of April,” a country of freedom, appealing and with language appropriate for young children.
It is a dynamic and entertaining stage production, with actors, figures, and animated objects, which remind us, as the character of the Grandmother says to her grandson, that “Many years ago, when your father was at school, in a country now far away, there lived an unhappy and lonely people, weighed down by a mysterious sadness.” A country that lived without its greatest treasure—freedom.
what the festival has to say
The Urze Teatro company develops solid theatrical work with various proposals that combine the art of puppetry and actor theatre. With this work by Manuel António Pina, we talk about freedom and its value, along with the education of children through a metaphor that speaks of a land of sad children. This creation takes us on a journey through paths made of words, where actors and puppets engage in dialogue, and is also a journey through a look at the country we once were, the country we are now, and a projection of a future country based on the belief that freedom is fundamental to the existence of happiness.
Urze Teatro
Urze Teatro is a professional theatre company that, since its foundation in 2000, under the artistic direction of actress Glória de Sousa and director Fábio Timor, has been continuously developing its activity with a particular focus on the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region, based in the city of Vila Real, where it has its headquarters, more precisely at the Teatro de Bolso, which, since October 2021, despite the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been providing an alternative artistic and cultural program to institutional offerings, with proposals from various creators and artistic entities, as well as its own repertoire.
Conceived with the aim of consolidating a distinctive project in the northern interior of the country, the company has embraced its modern references from the outset, positioning itself with relevance in the context of social and cultural themes, in an apparent symbiotic contradiction between expressionist interpretations and a minimalist creative aesthetic.
The creation of shows and activities aimed at young people has also characterized the company's trajectory, with the aim of attracting and consolidating new audiences, with a view to promoting and educating young people intellectually, civically, and culturally. Creations and shows marked by strong interactivity and visual expressiveness, with recourse to other artistic disciplines. At the same time, since 2016, it has organized “MAPI — Mostra de Artes para a Infância” (Children's Arts Exhibition), the only event in the region with a cultural program entirely aimed at children, young people, and families.
